Boat News

The boats  have kicked off the season with a few new faces added to our boat fam and we are excited to build on the momentum from last year. Finally after 2 seasons of searching our under 19’s girls are an awesome foursome stumbling across that elusive fourth rower 110km away in Kempsey, if that’s what it takes to find a young lady strong and brave enough to row a surfboat we will take it! Welcome to the crazy that is this crew Andy. Our Open Mens the “ swackers” has had a little reshuffle with the return of Mr Tommy Adams and a new face up there in the action seat.  A big hello to experienced bowman Brendan Ratcliffe, one of the best around at jumping in the bow we look forward to seeing what Brendo’s athleticism adds to the crew . If we can just get Kiwi Tom to stay in the country for long enough you guys can get stuck into some solid sessions and get some runs on the board . A boat club isn’t a strong boat club without juniors. We have been on the lookout for some junior boys to develop for the forthcoming seasons . Over the last few weeks we have been holding a learn to row session for some junior boys and the response has been heartening . A great bunch of lads have come along, embracing the budgies and a genuine enthusiasm to learn how to row .Good news is it looks like we have our 4, with a few hanging in the wings . Juniors are sweep Scotty Edwards specialty, with over 20 years of high school PE teaching he knows how to get the best out of teenagers and has had repeated success in this division at his previous club, Crescent Head.  Best part of all of this is we can now field a boat relay at championship events. We have had 2 North Coast Boat Series carnivals so far at Scotts Head and South West Rocks, with our focus now on the infamous Craftie on the 25th and 26th of November . Come hang out with us under our  tent and support the Coffs crews the Swackers, Fruitloops, Devon Sangas and Trainwrecks the competition is going to be red hot with crews from Queensland and all over NSW competing for NSW State Selection. Anyone interested in becoming a surf boat rower contact Rach Smyth on 0488577546, we are a friendly bunch who want to share our passion for our sport .
