Geoff King Motors Boaties Report

Geoff King Motors Boaties Report

It’s been a busy few months for the Geoff King Motors Coffs Harbour Surf Boat Rowers .

Our boaties have been training hard and juggling work and life commitments with patrols, crew training and competition .

Ocean Thunder

Our Open Men were given the opportunity to compete at 3 rounds of the Ocean Thunder Series held on the northern beaches of Sydney .

A big shout out to sweep Matt Collins for creating this opportunity for our boys, competing against the best of the best in the country the experience is priceless and provides solid racing which is invaluable to crew development and improvement .

NSW Country Championships

5 crews travelled to Cape Hawke for the Country Champs with great success in some testing conditions for our sweeps in the shore break . All crews brought home a medal contributing to our overall club pointscore total with the following results :

Open Mens “ Meat Pies “ Gold

Reserve Mens “ Devon Sandwiches” Gold

Under 23 Women “Fruitloops” Silver

Masters 160+ Mens “Trainwrecks “ Gold

Masters 200+ Men’s “Aussies Tacos” Bronze

ASRL OPEN

4 crews headed south to Bulli for 4 days of surfboat action against the best crews in Australia .

Unfortunately due to another random weather event masters competition was cancelled and our 2 masters crews the Trainwrecks, who were reigning champs in the 200’s division and the Aussie Tacos were unable to put their training to the test, a disappointing result for both crews as they have been putting in the hard yards and had expectations to bring home some bling .

With a change in the program the Meat Pies raced on Sunday in some hot heats, the boys put together some good races with loads of potential in their first season together as a crew .

The Devon Sandwiches were certainly the surprise package showing loads of heart to make the quarter finals with a solid row home narrowly missing out on making it through to the semis . Unlucky boys .

North Coast Boat Series

The final of the North Coast Boat Series was held on our home turf last weekend with perfect conditions at Parkie .

Our crews finished the boat series taking out 3 divisions and the club finished 2nd overall in the Club Pointscore. Congratulations to all of our rowers, our efforts collectively in rebuilding our boat section are paying off with consistent results. Team work makes the dream work .

Open Mens “ Meat Pies “

Reserve Mens “Devon Sandwiches “

Masters Male 160 + “ Trainwrecks “

Our attention now focuses to our last carnival of the season at the NSW State Championships at North Steyne . Keep an eye on our masters crews who are in with a good shot for podium finishes in their respective divisions, bring it home lads .

The club would love to see a dream ending for our club president Terry Maher who has declared his retirement from the sport (we shall see )at 75 with a win to send him out on a high with his fellow Aussie Tacos . It’s a joy to watch this crew row, the boys have rowed together for some time now with loads of success, it’s great to see the crew back in unison with a work ethic we all aspire to.

In the open division all eyes are on our Meat Pies to make it through to the finals and in the reserves for the Devon Sandwiches to continue with their form aiming to better their performance from the ASRL OPEN .

At the end of the day it will come down to the luck of the ocean, that’s why we love the sport that is surf boat rowing .
