BRANCH CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Sunday the of 13th February the North Coast Surf Clubs competed in the Branch Championships. The Carnival was held at the Jetty, conditions were challenging, there was the usual harbour dumper.

Our under 15’s performed well with Ethan winning the ironman, swim and a 3rd place in the board race. Cohen had a great performance with a 2nd in the board, 3rd in the swim and 3rd in the ironman. Xavier competed well in the conditions with a 4th in the iron man, 5th in the board and swim. Sara meet the challenge with her events coming in 4th for the swim, board and flags. Levi took out 2nd in the flags, 3rd in the sprint, 6th in the board. Bailey competed in the swim coming in 6th.
Ethan and Cohen won the board rescue. Cohen, Ethan and Xavier performed well as a team coming in 2nd behind Sawtell in their board relay. Sara and Larni teamed up for the board rescue.
The under 17’s were well represented by Payton, Lucy and Mitch.
Mitch competed well off the back of his open water training he placed 1st in the swim, 3rd in the board, 2nd in the iron man, 2nd in the ski and 3rd in the sprint and 4th in the flags. Lucy had a great 1st carnival with a 2nd in the swim, 3rd in the board and 2nd in the sprint. Payton performed well with a 1st in the sprint, 2nd in the board and 3rd in the swim. Payton and Lucy competed in the board rescue coming in 2nd with a tremendous wipeout to finish the race. Levi competed up an age group in the under 17’s board rescue with Mitch coming in 2nd.
Seniors/Masters was represented by Grant, Aaron, Anthony, Simon, Richard and Phil. W.
Aaron had a great performance with a 1st in the board and ski, 3rd in the sprint, 1st in 30+ flags and 2nd in the swim. Aaron’s on light duties at home with a torn hamstring. Grant went around the cans again placing 2nd in the board and ski, 3rd in the swim and iron man. On the beach Grant placed 1st in the sprint and flags.
Anthony combined with Simon and they placed 3rd in the board rescue. Simon McIntyre had a swim and placed 4th and 2nd in the 30+ flags. Richard G took to the sand for the sprint and came in 4th. His reward is a torn calf. Phil W. took bragging rights being the only sprinter to not sustain an injury as he negotiated the 70 meters without any trauma placing 4th.
Open board rescue Aaron and Grant placed 2nd (Grant and Aaron’s communication is awesome there is no need to fix their finishers). Aaron, Grant, Mitch and Simon McIntyre teamed up for the open male surf teams and placed 1st.

Overall our seniors competitors finished 2nd and our Masters contingent won their respective point score.

The weather was great for branch championships. It was great to see our club field competitors for under 8’s through to 40+. If anyone in the club is thinking about surf sports we’d love to see people come to training, maybe next year is your year.
