Woolgoolga Teams Carnival

Woolgoolga Teams Carnival

A small contingent represented our club at the Woopi teams carnival on January 8th.

In all, nine competitors from U14 to Masters combined to make teams. Board, cameron and swim relays were contested and a board rescue was the culminating event of the day.

Coco Backhouse, Abbey Lawler, Larnie Mordue, Elliot Hulbert, Sara Bergen, Levi Gunther, Melina Lawler, Grant Lawler and Sean Lawler competed.

The morning had some challenging waves typical of the Woolgoolga break. Surf ranging from 2ft – 4ft was on offer. Some of our athletes took advantage of the conditions and raced very well.

Our surf sports athletes continue to improve their skills and results.

It was somewhat sad we couldn’t arrange for more of our competitors to attend. Nippers recommencing the same day was problematic.

The branch used this carnival to test the feasibility of running similar carnivals. The shorter amount of time spent on the beach was certainly a plus. Mixed age groups and the odd mixed club team also provided some good opportunities to meet new up and coming athletes from other clubs in the branch.

More racing opportunities within the branch will certainly improve the overall standard of competition. We would like to thank the branch for putting on the carnival and look forward to racing the format again.
